Am I harmful insect? Not I said the fly, but I'm not a fly but a moth. These represent A Call For Papers...some of my more public and controversial writings..these, for at least four years, have caused quite a stir. Those that have taken them to make them known have stumbled upon the stumbling blocks of our time. Closed minded? This page is not for you. Open minded to hear the "post modern thots" of a moth please continue..these are the makings of the politically minded and forward thinking. The future is now. Those that are the bravest are those who begin.

"Post Goth and the Evolution of Sub-Cultures"-Article by Dimitri Spanoa

In 2006, when this article was written the Wiki-trolls and the literary goths alike as well as the subculture E-zines did not want to acknowledge that a new genera was coming to take the place of an existing one, that seemed well established. This article also predates the steam punk explosion. As we see this is now upon us. One careful note to consider as a mini epilogue..the need for a digital copy of oneself was so great that culture exploded out of the "looksets" of 3d video games and their chat based clients..as virtual designers began to spill out over into the real world, the need to mimic their beloved avatars began to tip the fashion world. Life exchanged hands with art and did a little dance..

In the late 1980's, the goth culture grew out of the post punk movement and underwent a transformation into various subcultures. However the origins of this movement may run deeper into the survival of bloodlines within various races of the human species. Very little effort has been studied into the ties of underground movements and the need for a race of man to survive and exist. A very popular Celtic art style, La Tene (450 BC) lasted the test of time. As the spirit of the people lived on long after they had, a new explosion of Celtic art became very popular, uniting with the popularity of tribal tattoos. Celtic knot-work is believed, in many circles, to be magical and as a testament to one's lifestyle. Many people now are garnished with works of art on their bodies carrying with them meaning and stories to share. La Tene and other similar styles of Celtic art became even more popular as archeologists began to discover the art of a lost people.

The Gothic revolution has it's ties to the survival of the Germanic tribes of antiquity. Pure branches of Gothic and Visigothic bloodlines are rare but exist. It is within these walls, that Gothic architecture became so popular and began to spread among the building style of the day. Great novels written in the 17th and 18th centuries led to the popularity of vampire lore. Some even believe that these tales stretch far deeper into the consciousness of human history.

It is amazing to know that most of the popular music culture has only been around for fifty or sixty years. Packed into the onslaught of semi-modern wars, great movements became a way of self expression. -The Surrealism movement, cubism, expressionism, art deco. The birth of rock and roll saw the splitting apart of music from the standard: dirges, hymns, and chants to a modernized system of patterns and culture. As music evolved so did the multi-cellular organism of music. There is a great importance for various genres to adhere to ideals created by their fore runners, which leads me to the topic of the modern goth scene.

In early 2000, as Gothic culture grew more mainstream, levels of adaptation began to occur. This was not only evident in the goth scene but in punk music birthing into pop punk. Some of these changes have been accepted and some have been criticized. But none the less, these new babies were birthed and needed to develop on their own. These new kinds of cultures, had with in their orbit, new clothing styles that blended with mainstream apparel. A greatly debated clothing store that came out of this time period was Hot Topic.

The evolution that some are not willing to receive is the changes happening within the Gothic community. Post Goth could be described as goth culture becoming more popular in the mainstream eye. This may be the result of the adaptation of what the mainstream picks and chooses to become post goth.

Another phenomena began to occur as the Gothic culture became more popular. Some of the Gothic culture became integrated into the hip hop world. As a result hybridized urban art and clothing began to surface as well as a new breed of Gothic rapper. As some of these can be accepted, it is something that we face today. Gothic artists found inspiration with graffiti artists and new urbanized art began to develop.

As the Gothic culture began to surge, even the closest of kin, "industrial" began to acknowledge the changes. Within the industrial community lies the underground that stretches back past the cold war into World War I. The origins of gas masks comes from a deeper side of war and politics. The threat of chemical warfare created the need to protect ones lungs. Deep in the heart of the industrial age was the seeds of the new post Gothic community. Recently we have been seeing the "red cross" icon and a "militarized industrial group". . .This may be the post Gothic sub-culture emerging. This new branch within the industrial community has ties to the surrealism movements of the early 1900's. We can even look to World War II plane "nose art" to see the dark under-culture that is post goth.

It is also highly noted that within the industrial culture is the element of science-fiction and cyber punk. Some inspiration comes from popular movies as, Blade Runner and The Matrix. This new musical genera, is the disputed territories of: post-industrial, psy-trance, cyber goth, space rock and future pop.

It looks as if the upheaval of the industrial culture maybe upon us as well as a natural progression of this underground culture that could become "space industrial."

In each movement there is an epicenter of which it began and controversy within changes to a well established network or group. The ideas coming from Denver, for example, seem to be ahead of their time, but very relative to what could happen in the very near future. Is the industrial world ready to adapt to the new changes that could arise from a new genera?

There is a new awareness being raised about the shift of music that will take place as we near the orbit of space. Many space programs are being stimulated for the creation of commercial vehicles and the need for space entertainment as this becomes more of a possibility everyday. Although music from a space point of view could be interpreted in a number of ways, it may have its origins in the underground subcultures from which it came from.

And so in closing, the subject of musical movements have deeper ties within the bloodlines of the races of man. And they tend to follow natural progressions based upon the technology and evolution of mainstream and underground culture. Voices within these movements are usually those that perceive what is around the bend for the future of these movements. Some voices are accepted while others are shunned.

"History in a Nutshell and the Future Machine"-article by Dimitri Spanoa

Told through the eyes of a 500 year old moth..an article by Dimitri Spanoa. Gather round you visionary and harken to this tale..will you believe the transmissions of a moth? He crosses all demographics, he crosses all visual boundaries..he is a shadow in this society with a voice that is distinct and accurate to the pulse of these modern times...if you decide not you can join him to seek the answers together..or pick his melancholy brain. ("500? I thought it was...")

And so we begin..

On certain cloud based servers and open source technologies in the music world have allowed working graphic interfaces to link together to form music. These modules have their own characteristics. By taking these ideas and implementing them into virtual engineering and game physics one could develop real world products tested first in a virtual lab..or have these new technologies run within the world in which it was designed for.

I've found with my research of cell phone applications, applications are seeking to duplicate the world of popular start-ups companies..a smaller version of the larger version..the larger version represents the real world company. This "duplication" can be used for many ideas..the 500,000 or so apps is proof of this. But then, as I studied the GUI of the iphone and the ipad, I began to ask a question..what would an "augment button do?" Is there an "augment button?" No there is not...The possibilities are endless. Within this research, I began to see the difference between controls and content.

As I've also studied the history of certain art-forms, for many years, court painters would access the infinite in the background of the subject they were painting. Thy could either access what they actually saw or out of their imagination. It's my understanding that the imaginary world of video games are like the medieval palettes. We are trying to think ahead of that which we can't see right now. As I take a step back into history, it was upon the parchments that the first ideas of architecture sprung out..as illumination became more solid and organized itself over several centuries. The need to duplicate itself in stone began to emerge.. It took a great man such as Charlemagne, with his purchasing power, to fuse together what would become of Gothic architecture..and the offspring of these would form our modern skyscrapers as architects within a few hundred years worked out the problems of bell tracery. These religious buildings, for religious purposes, were refined and minimalized for the merchant and the modern worker and iron replaced stone..we now shift from an industrial age to an information age and with this information we build virtual architecture. We can say that there has been building going on since the very beginning -as these forms take on different shapes for different purposes.

By condensing the real world it is very simple, the wealthy and powerful control our modern systems. The thinkers and visionaries however see what is ahead and challenge what is established. It's not done by one person alone or by one team, technology and informational science break out in bursts from different facets of life..one overtakes the other causing one to change..one to become standard..we travel in pockets of entrapment or deny access to things that become obsolete. Entrapment stabilizes to form culture beds, but these beds don't stay stagnant for long..the shifting paradigms of the Earth and it's causality with it's economic laws forces one to adapt or to get out of the way -forced into early retirement.

If the internet in its present state would issue a "stable avatar" platform...of what you do business with and make it standard, or if virtual communities would allow a "cross platform" conversion where one avatar from "the Star Wars universe could gain access to "the WoW world" instead of being a "closed" community, then these larger communities, linking together, would form the phenomena of a real avatar based internet. As long as these stay closed -and maybe they have and I'm not aware of it..then we will begin to shift from a text based internet to an "avatar" based internet. Conversion rates would be the equivalent to different "virtual races" interacting on one server. This is somewhat equivalent to what fast food stores are doing by having a "Long John Silvers within a Taco Bell." These "walls" are beginning to break down...The greatest annoyance I've seen in this adolescent stage is the way that modern brands have lost their power because it has become an advertisement field with rotating logos and themes traveling across the packages real-estate.

But annoyance soon turns to amusement and the adventure land of a brainstorming insect mind. But why the mind of an insect and why a moth? I am a shadow with a mask.

Introduction
Growing the Space Industrial Base

The Defense Department has long hoped that its needs for space products and services be supplied by an industrial base that is sustained by commercial sales. That day has not arrived, despite the years of targeted purchases, investments, and acquisition reform. The beacons of the past decade's policy-competition and technology investments-cannot bring it to pass. A more promising approach is found in a strategic outlook on research, development, and procurement. Such an approach probably cannot be sustained, but working toward it would reduce the incident of counterproductive policies. Future programs are likely to achieve innovation and cost control in the same way that past programs did-through active government participation and managed competition.

SPACE INDUSTRIAL CULTURE AND MUSIC: Transitioning from science-fiction to science fact

There has always been a great need for exploration. Man has pushed beyond the borders of their own countries to find newly unexplored coastlines to arrive at indigenous peoples along stretches of land that were not known before. Man pushes deeper into the ice to find clues of the past climatic cycles and deeper in the oceans to find the origins of past civilizations and the movements of the earth. The last great exploration is space. Space as they call the final frontier...is the subject of science fiction movies. A few attempts have been made to sample the crusts of other planets and plot coarses of meteorites and comets. Probes have been sent out and a few manned space flights, but crossing the threshold from science fiction to science fact is a line that few dare to cross. It is within our grasp and small budding cultures are beginning to become aware of this possibility.

As man decides to cross the threshold of science fiction, many new forms of things begin to be needed. As a society is built on ships that can handle vast amounts of people, entertainment will be needed. New forms of culture will emerge as they become inspired by a new view point from outer space. As this is not just a military measure, but a commercial measure, society will shift from one paradigm to another...and the two will gradually merge.

There are two popular movies that come to mind when thinking of the transitions of new music forms. The Fifth Element, starring Bruce Willis, is a story about a future industrial world. At one point in the film there is the need for an entertainment sequence and very tall blue life form takes the stage. This blue life-form is accompanied by a progressive musical outfit.

A second film which we are all familiar with is Star Wars In the last film there is a scene where Senator Palpitine is sitting with young Darth Vader discussing politics. They dismiss their entourage to speak privately...In the background is a mysterious dark progressive opera unfolding...the likes of digital jelly fish swaying in a ghostly procession.

In the worlds of the Matrix and Star Wars, there are elements that start to bleed over in the real world. These visions of a future-scape are becoming more of a reality every day as new strides are being made in the technology sectors.

Space industrial may evolve out of a natural progression of society. This evolution would not just be an evolution of industrial or darker forms of music, but all genera would experience this pendulum swing. In this light space music could be interpreted in any earth genera.
The need for commercial space mining and entertainment

As resources become depleted from our own earth, we will need to find more ways to supply us with new raw materials. These new raw materials will give us new forms of technology that are not readily available here. During the 1800's vast communities and networks grew out of the push for the new railroad systems. Coal mining became very popular as well and made new industrial worlds.

These same communities will grow and flourish in the circles of exploration of space materials. Like the Wild West, saloons sprang up as watering holes for weary ranch hands, workers and bankers. With this came, barmaids and upright pianos, card games and shootouts. The land of cyberspace has grown into this new wild frontier as new networks of communities are meeting for the first time. People take up large stakes of virtual real-estate...to build their virtual homes.

Spaceports can play a new and very critical role in the arena of financing and regulations, said Peter Diamandis, chairman of the X Prize Foundation in St. Louis, Missouri. The group offers a purse of $10 million to stimulate the building of suborbital passenger vehicles.

"While we traditionally have thought about spaceports as places that are safe for launching rockets, today's spaceports are playing a more important role. That is, they are helping to galvanize federal, state and local political support to change regulations or using state-related tax authorizations to help companies get financing," Diamandis remarked.

"It is possible that spaceports may become future centers for point-to-point passenger travel, space tourism, and rocket-mail package delivery," Diamandis said.
Origins and development of the subculture today

The author, writer and illustrator Dimitri Spanoa, could well be the father of the space industrial genera and culture. visionarys are sometimes misunderstood, as they have a way of looking into the future to see what is around the corner. If they can get there before others, it is the seeds and the birth of culture. Sometimes it is the work of a group or a collective. The author George Lucas was one visionary, and his vision of the future has been adopted by many people. the legacy of Star Wars lives on in the hearts of it's fans and audiences. Although the later movies are sometimes criticized, there is a magic of the first movies that has changed history forever.

The question also arises with visionarys, is that someone had to create something. A genera, a vision or culture can be followed to the source of a single person or a group of people under common inspirations. That being said, the space industrial genera is the vision of a single person. But in the case of the vision of Dimitri Spanoa, it is encapsulated in in a set of fictitious bands that he created.

Space Industrial culture and music comes from a larger branch of industrial and or industrial rock. There are similarities with it's parent genera, It is most related to cyber-punk, art rock and space rock , but lacks the rebellion and psychedelic nature of some of these groups. Space Industrial also is very similar to hip hop and trip hop as it may have rappers that talk about a space related issues or cyber-punk themes. It is often misunderstood as such. Those associated with space industrial are sometimes intellectuals and are fans of: science fiction, film noir, popular culture, anthropology, archeology and art history . Space Industrial culture is often a closed secretive community, but a peaceful society; They go about promoting the cause of society getting to space and political issues.

WHAT IS SPACE INDUSTRIAL MUSIC?

Space Industrial combines a combination of progressive musical ideas. Elements of Nu-jazz, trip-hop, trance, industrial rock, EBM, Darkwave, and progressive house can be found within this genera. It is also a combination on its softer side: Gypsy and Irish folk. There may be flavors of: dark hip-hop, Latin influences, pop, and Nu-grass. The combination of this sound creates the style of space industrial. It however does not have to follow this model, and many interpretations could come from this. Space Industrial music also has cinematic elements that translates well to films and video games.

The Dark Fantasy Model

The dark fantasy model is what separates this form of industrial with its counterparts. It often follows a space theme. Some popular cultures, icons and movies such as: Star Wars, The Matrix, Salvador Dali, The Hunt For Red October, Blade Runner, C.S. Lewis, Harry Potter are similar themes. Space Industrial bands are set in a future history and play to space clubs in a fictitious world. It is a peaceful movement, But, it is also a military and political movement, blending film-noir, and post World War II surrealism. In this it can be said that it is a surrealist movement-combining graphic imagery such as oil paintings. Stories told with music.

space industrial is a surrealist movement

As we have seen, there are efforts being made for the causes of commercial and military districts in space. They have not been created yet however, but a growing awareness are blossoming in art communities and the technology sectors that culture will soon be needed. Following a dark fantasy model, the space industrial world can be seen through the eyes of progressive thinkers, visionaries and inventors. New groups are starting to arise out of this need to further the human experience. other similar sub-genera and subcultures
